Curio Blueberry and Lime Gin
Curio Blueberry and Lime gin sources blueberries from a former Cornish monastery to create a refreshing gin full of zest, without being overpowering. This is a soothing gin with a pleasing personality with a depth of flavour designed to be sipped neat or with the ever-present accompaniment of premium mixers. Keeping to the Curio tradition and ethos of sourcing botanicals from the local environment, the blueberries are from Bonallack, just a few miles inland from the coastal distillery. Bonallack is situated on the upper reaches of the Helford River, a site of early settlement since the bronze age. A 12th century was confirmed by a Time Team dig in 2002, who found existence of cultivation of blueberries and other vaccinium. It appears that Curio were not the first to appreciate the taste and medicinal properties of blueberries and other botanicals. The blueberries used in Curio Blue are grown on a south-facing slope, next to an ancient woodland that reaches down to the river. Curio alchemist and head distiller William Tyler-Street said: “There are wild bilberries growing in these woodlands, so we knew from the start that another Vaccinium would be very productive on this site. Blueberries contain a plant compound called anthocyanin. This gives blueberries both their blue colour and many of their health benefits. Blueberries can help heart health, bone strength, skin health, blood pressure, diabetes management, cancer prevention and mental health.
